IN the first of the new year’s fixtures, Squirrels caused an upset in the Harwich Men’s League after beating A division leaders Ind Coope A.

Going into the singles, the Coope were 2-1 up.

However, Squirrels responded by winning five of the six singles for a 6-3 win.

Mick Parkin, for Squirrels, won the crucial fifth game.

Stu Petre, only making his second appearance of the season, then won the last game to take the sixth.

The only winner for the Coope, in the singles, was Kevin Edwards.

Squirrels’ Craig Raffle had a 134-finish, while the Coope’s Paul Amoss scored a 180.

Hanover A trail Coope by just one point after they had a comfortable victory over Trafalgar, winning 8-1.

The Traf’s Shaun Fox scored his fourth 180 of the season, while Hanover’s Mick Chambers scored a 180.

In-form Maybush had another 7-2 win, this time at home to Hanover B.

Tony Berritt had a 120 finish.

The only winners for Hanover B, in the singles, were Robbie Balaam and Trevor Carroll.

Steve Barker (Oakley A) scored his third 180 of the season and had a 13-dart leg, in his team’s 6-3 win at home to the Golf Club.

Ben Attridge, from United Services Club, now has the highest shot-out of the season so far with a 160 finish.

However, his team lost to the Cricket Club, 6-3.

Cricketers’ Adam Rowland had a 110 finish and scored 180, while Martin Heath had a 14-dart leg.

Shakers beat bottom team Little Oakley B 8-1 to go top of the B division. Tony Carroll, for the Shakers, had a 107 finish.

Royal Oak, in second place, came out on top in their game with Cherry Tree.

Steve Bond, for the Oak, scored a 180.

At one time, Cherries led 3-2, but the last four singles games were won by the Oak for a 6-3 win.

Paul Kempen (Royal Oak) won the all-important fifth game.

Ships and Rangers had 5-4 wins.

Ships won their game after being 4-2 down at home to the Flag.

They then won their last three singles game.

Nick Lawrie (Ships) won the final game for the Flag, while Tinker Heath scored 177.

Rangers’ Dave Kempen (118 finish) won the last game for his side’s win over Luney Club, as they came back from 3-1 down.

The Shrimpers’ George Jackson and Peter Horne won the last two games for a 5-4 win over R/A Club.

For the first time this season, they have moved off the bottom of the league.
