HARWICH Runners held their annual presentation evening.

Twenty-two trophies were handed out, along with 19 certificates and 12 new club records.

The winners included most improved cross-country runners Carrie Hook and Matt Doran.

The Championship Challenge was won by Phil Sanderson.

Bill Haining won best new member – he also set a new club record at 10km and was voted runner-of-the-month for August.

Other new club records were set by Elspeth Knott, Kate Hodgkiss, Claudine Tisbury, Amos Seddon and Ann Piercy.

Claire Gooding-Matthews was voted most improved runner of the year.

She had improved her five-mile time by three minutes and her 5k time by over five minutes during 2015.

Club handicap five-mile race winners were Sabine Klapper (summer) and Alice Cole (winter).

One of the most popular winners of the evening was 14-year-old Archie Barrington.

He was the youngest-ever winner of the race performance of the year award for his win at the Harwich Parkrun on November 28 in a personal best time of 20 minutes 22 seconds.

The evening finished with a special award to Richard Flutter who, since August, has been battling cancer.

Despite having major surgery and chemotherapy, he has continued to train and even race almost every week.

During this period, he has managed to run some sub 20-minute 5k races – an inspiration to all and a somewhat emotional end to the evening.
