HARWICH AND PARKESTON 0

WEELEY ATHLETIC 4

Border League Knockout Cup quarter-final

HARWICH bowed out of the Knockout Cup after suffering defeat at home to Weeley.

The visitors took their chances, whereas the Shrimpers could not capitalise when they enjoyed a period of dominance in the second half.

Harwich’s first opportunity came in the fourth minute, when Gavin Mann put Craig Martin through but his shot went just wide.

Two minutes later, Weeley took the lead when Ross Nash slipped the ball past goalkeeper Sam Felgate.

The Weeley keeper then made a fine diving save to push out Matt Geen’s shot at the expense of a corner.

Russ McLean and team-mate Tom Heffer increased Weeley’s lead in the 35th and 47th minutes and the Shrimpers faced a tough task in the second half.

However, Harwich enjoyed most of the attacking during this period and should have reduced the lead.

In the 50th minute, Jake Neale was through on goal but could not keep his shot down and Martin also had a couple of snap-shot opportunities.

In the 75th minute, Weeley broke away and showed how it is done with McLean scoring his second goal.

Tomorrow, Harwich entertain leaders Gas Recreation, at the Royal Oak. Kick-off is at 3.15pm.
