LITTLE Oakley joint-boss Paul Sadler thanked the club’s supporters who turned out in force for Wednesday’s Essex Premier Cup final.

The club enjoyed a great vocal support in the showpiece match at Thurrock’s Ship Lane ground.

Unfortunately, the result went against the Acorns as Frenford Senior fought back from behind to win 4-1.

However, Sadler paid tribute to the club’s loyal followers – and hoped they were proud of his team for getting so far in the competition.

“The supporters were fantastic. Absolutely amazing,” said Sadler, who runs the side with Sean Tynan.

“They were like that in last year’s Border League Knockout Cup final, too.

“When our goal went in the noise was unbelievable.

“To come all this way – and the traffic was horrendous – means a lot to us all.

“We certainly appreciate the fact that so many people made the effort to come all this way and support and believe in our players.

“We’re only a village side but this goes to show where the club is.

“People support it so well and hopefully they were proud, despite the result.”

Sadler says he and his players will take their midweek disappointment on the chin.

And he believes they will build on this season’s success, going forward.

“Frenford took their chances and we didn’t,” he said.

“That’s the harsh reality of cup football.

“But I’m sure we’ll come back stronger and this gives us something to build on.

“We won a final last year and have got to another final this year.

“I’m proud of the boys.

“It’s still a young bunch of lads and the next year or two will be their big time in football.

“They’ve still got their peak to come, so if we can keep them all together then I believe there are exciting times ahead. Without a doubt.

“We’ll take this one on the chin and get on with it.

“It’s down to us to pick the boys up for tomorrow’s match at Lawford Lads.”
