STANWAY ROVERS completed a memorable week with another landslide win.

Four days after putting six goals past north Essex neighbours FC Clacton, Angelo Harrop’s side were at it again on Saturday – walloping Walsham-le-Willows 7-0.

Ben Newson led the way with a hat-trick, while Craig Hughes and Billy Hunt netted twice in the Thurlow Nunn League premier division contest at The Hawthorns.

Stanway’s haul included two penalties and it was ironic that the victory came seven days after a frustrating 1-1 draw between the sides at Walsham.

Harrop said after that game that his players needed to start putting their chances away – something they have clearly rectified since.

Stanway, unbeaten in the league since October 10, are second in the table and still five points above Godmanchester Rovers, who beat Newmarket Town 4-1.

Harrop’s men are also still eight points behind leaders and champions-elect Norwich United, who ran out 4-2 winners at FC CLACTON.

Skipper Aaron Condon netted both the Seasiders’ goals – his 26th and 27th of the season, swelling his overall club total to 98.

He will be hoping to bring up the century in next week’s home match against Thetford Town.

Two more will also take him level with Sean Hillier, who holds the club’s single-season scoring record of 29 goals in the 2008/09 campaign.

Elsewhere in the premier division, BRANTHAM ATHLETIC lost 3-1 at home to Kirkley & Pakefield.

Sean Gunn scored the Imps’ goal, making it 1-1.

It was a relatively quiet day in division one, with HALSTEAD TOWN having kicked-off the Thurlow Nunn League programme on Friday night.

They won 1-0 at Haverhill Borough, with the only goal coming when Sam Cripps converted Marcus Warren’s cross.

Mark Benterman’s side went into the match knowing a victory would move them to within two points of the promotion places, ahead of Saturday’s action.

BRAINTREE TOWN RESERVES lost 4-0 at home to high-flying Ely City.

WIVENHOE TOWN had been due to host Debenham LC, at the Maple Tree Cars Stadium.

However, the match was postponed by the referee, who deemed the pitch unplayable.

The Dragons need another seven points from their remaining five matches to clinch the first division title.
