DOVERCOURT Bowls Club’s ladies won by two shots in their first friendly match, against Colchester Ardleigh.

The players had to come off the green at one point due to a hail storm but, thankfully, the weather changed and allowed them to continue.

On rink four, A Pottinger, Carol Sutton and Pam Bloom lost by 13 shots.

F Dick, H Bull and V Green won by one on rink five and then, on rink six, D Jacobs, J Jupp and S Hambling triumphed by 14.

Meanwhile, Dovercourt played the first leg of the annual Leith Cup match, at Thorpe.

Despite winning on four of the six rinks, they lost 123-101.

Dovercourt’s top rink was skipped by Sandra Hambling, assisted by Carol Marshall, Derek Taylor and Brian Hopkins.

Dovercourt entertained Brantham in their first Windsor League match and won 71-53.

This was by three rinks to one and they therefore took the points 8-2.

The top rink was skipped by Keith Forsyth, assisted by Graham Mond and Peter Martin.

Dovercourt outside bowling club are offering free coaching to those who might be interested in taking up the sport.

Just turn up at 6pm on Monday, May 9 at their ground in Fronks Avenue.

All you need to bring is a pair of flat-bottomed shoes or trainers.
