Colchester Swimming Club member Laura Stephens claimed two bronze medals at the European Junior Swimming Championships in Hungary.

The 17-year-old from Wix secured podium finishes for Great Britain in both the women’s 100 metres and 200m butterfly, at the championships in Hódmezővásárhely.

Stephens, who is now based at Plymouth Leander, helped the British junior team continued an impressive run of medals after delivering a strong swim and powerful final lap to secure the final podium position in the 100m butterfly.

She secured bronze as she joined Hungary’s Petra Barocsai who claimed silver and Polina Egorova of Russia, who went home with gold, on the podium.

Stephens also finished third in the 200m butterfly, to claim bronze.

Fellow British swimmer Emily Large stormed to victory after she controlled the four laps of the pool to finish more than a body length ahead of the rest of the field, with Germany’s Julia Mrozinski taking silver.

Stephens also competed in the women’s 50m butterfly in Hungary.

She clocked a time of 27.53 seconds in the semi-finals, having qualified from her heat in 27.58.
