LITTLE Oakley's walking football team have received several invitations to join tournaments - including one from the Premier League.

Team co-ordinator Derek Murr says that after just five very successful sessions, the club have so far registered 15 over- 60s players.

He has been told several others are keen to join and consideration is now being given about holding a further evening session for over-50s.

"I feel we're now ready to play some competitive games and I'm pursuing the friendly home and away fixtures that I'd already agreed with Chelmsford City, The Flying Foxes of Manningtree, Kesgrave WF and Walton Swifts, so we can get some dates in the diary," said Murr.

Little Oakley have also been invited to join two Walking Football Leagues, including a new Premier League over-50s Walking Football League comprising teams like Arsenal, West Ham, Charlton and Leyton Orient.

The other is the Essex FA Walking Football League.

Murr will be attending a meeting at the Essex FA's headquarters, so that the club can join the Essex League, on September 9.

Recent tournament invitations include ones at Basildon, Southend and Chelmsford.

And this is even before they have kicked a ball in a competitive match.

The walking football sessions take place at the Memorial Ground every Wednesday morning at 11am.
