HARWICH and Dovercourt Golf Club held their annual Mixed Open.

It took place in good golfing weather, although the windy conditions tested the players.

The winners were Mick and Karen Reichert, from Brett Vale Golf Club, with 58 points.

They won on countback from Ged Saveall (Stowmarket) and Helen Lawson (Diss).

In total, 72 players from 21 clubs took part, from across Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk.

The course was in an immaculate condition and much appreciated by the visitors.

The format consisted of 27 holes stableford, nine holes foursomes, nine holes greensomes and nine holes fourball better ball, with prize hampers supplied by Oxleys, of Dovercourt.

Results: 1st overall: Mick and Karen Reichert (Brett Vale) – 58 points (16–18–24), 2nd overall: Ged Saveall (Stowmarket) and Helen Lawson (Diss) – 58 points (19–21–18); 1st foursomes: Willie and Sarah Beeton (Woodbridge) - 18 points, 2nd foursomes: Bob and Linda Bennett (Ipswich) – 17 points; 1st greensomes: Nigel and Lorraine Sage (Woodbridge) – 20 points, 2nd greensomes: Ian and Pam Madams (Bury St Edmunds) – 18 points; 1st fourball: Gordon and Joan Warnett (Bury St Edmunds) – 22 points ocb, 2nd fourball: Brian and Di Clarke (Ufford Park) – 22 points; Nearest the pin: Lady – Helen Lawson (Diss); Nearest the pin - lady: Colin Dennis (Woodbridge).

At the end of the prizegiving, Steve Hurst announced that he and wife Jane had organised their last Mixed Open, after 34 years.

He thanked all those present and everyone for their support and good wishes over the years.
