HARWICH and Dovercourt Hockey Club's under-14s competed in a junior seven-a-side festival in Ipswich.

Competition came from Harleston, Ipswich, Ipswich and East Suffolk and Felixstowe Hockey Clubs.

Faith Eagle, Katherine Hammond, Brooke Purser and Abbie Broom played in true team spirit, happy to substitute and share their role in the team.

Lucy Henshall and Jenni Morgan showed they are getting stronger, while skipper Gabrielle Williams, alongside Saskia Henderson, Abbie Broom and Brooke Purser, created a unit up front.

The last game of the tournament saw Henderson dribble pass the goalkeeper - only then to hit the ball wide of the open goal.

However, minutes later, she repeated the same skills and learnt from her errors to score, resulting in Harwich winning 1-0 against Felixstowe.

The players' player-of-the-match was Miah Reynolds, followed by Henderson and Williams.

"The girls can hold their heads high with the performances they gave," said manager Sophie Southgate.

"They enjoyed the experience and will be more confident for the next tournament."

All the girls have now experienced competitive matchplay and look forward to working together on October 2, in another competition at Sudbury.

Junior hockey training is on Thursday evenings, from 6pm until 7pm.

The cost is £1.30 and the sessions are for girls and boys aged 11 to 16.

All new players are welcome.
