Stanway crossed the Suffolk border to Newmarket Town and returned with maximum points after an excellent 2-1 victory.

Jamie Shaw and Billy Hunt were on target for Angelo Harrop’s side, who had gone into the match on the back of a 3-1 victory at Holland FC on Thursday night, in the second round of the Essex Senior Cup.

Josh Dalziel, Shaw and Hunt scored their goals in the tie and, ironically, the sides meet again on Tuesday night, except this time at The Hawthorns in the League Challenge Cup.

Wivenhoe paid a visit to Saffron Walden Town and drew 1-1.

The Dragons fell behind in the first half, when the hosts converted a penalty awarded for a handball against Ben Lampon.

However, Joe Heron secured a point in a game that later saw two red cards.

First, a Saffron Walden player was sent off for a foul on Adam Hampson.

Wivenhoe’s Ben Parkin then followed him back to the dressing rooms after seeing red for a tackle.

The Dragons are away to Barking on Tuesday, in the Essex Senior Cup.

New Clacton boss Kieron Shelley took his team to Kirkley and Pakefield.

Shelley had been encouraged by his side’s performance during his first match in charge, when they were unfortunate to lose 1-0 at home to Hadleigh United last Tuesday.

However, the shell-shocked Seasiders had a day to forget after crashing 10-0 at Walmer Road.

The Royals scored twice in quick succession in the first half before adding another three in five minutes after the interval.

Five more goals then followed – making it a very long trip back to Tendring.

Clacton, who are rock bottom of the table with nine defeats out of nine, host FA Cup heroes Felixstowe and Walton on Tuesday.

Elsewhere, BRANTHAM ATHLETIC had a tough match at home to early premier division pacesetters Mildenhall Town and lost 3-0.

The Imps host Hadleigh in the League Challenge Cup on Tuesday.

First division leaders COGGESHALL TOWN lost 2-1 at fellow high-fliers Framlingham Town.

HALSTEAD TOWN, who were playing their only league game this month, due to their success in the cup competitions, entertained Team Bury and won 4-0.

Their first goal was gift-wrapped, after the visitors’ keeper made a hash of a simple back-pass could only watch as the ball rolled in.

Jordan Hutchings then scored from a free-kick to make it two.

Marcus Warren converted from the spot after a foul on Joe O’Hare and substitute Jack Charnock’s cool finish made it 4-0.

After their Essex Senior Cup exit, HOLLAND FC were back at the Rush Green Bowl and had an excellent 3-0 victory against Haverhill Borough.

Terry Rymer scored twice and he was joined on the scoresheet by Joe Martin.

BRAINTREE TOWN RESERVES lost 3-0 at home to King’s Lynn Reserves.
