HARWICH and Dovercourt Golf Club held the President’s Cup competition.

It was played for in bright sunshine and breezy conditions which, coupled with some difficult pin positions, made for difficult scoring.

The course was in excellent condition, despite a lack of rain in recent months, and the greenkeepers were praised for their efforts.

The winner, with 42 points, was Darren Law, who almost gave up the game last year but was grateful to his playing partner and mentor, Ian Powell, for helping him with his swing.

In second, with 39 points, was Kevin Routledge, while Bernie Burrows finished third with 38.

Anne Myers won the ladies' prize with 31 points.

With a distance of over 300 yards, Sam Warren won the longest drive and nearest the pins went to Ricky Chambers and Eric Bushell.

President Ron Keen, thanked all the staff and competitors for their support in making the day most enjoyable.

“I was particularly delighted to see several new members, a result of our recent membership drive, in the field of 73," he said.

Next week is the Plonkers Cup, an annual charity fundraising event for Cancer Research, held in memory of former club members.
