LITTLE Oakley ran out 2-0 winners in this afternoon’s big derby at neighbours Harwich and Parkeston.

Jordan Heath and Jake Kioussis scored their goals in the Essex and Suffolk League showdown.

The victory takes Oakley to the top of the premier division table, leapfrogging previous leaders Gas Recreation.

It also means they have a proud record of still being unbeaten heading into the second half of the season.

Heath scored the first goal in a hard-fought contest, rising to convert a near-post header from Frank Selwyn’s cross.

It came in the latter stages of the first half and proved a pivotal moment.

Louis Reynolds crossed from the right and the hosts felt the ball had drifted out of play before being collected by team-mate Frank Selwyn.

However, the officials let play continue and Selwyn’s cross from the left was finished clinically by Heath.

Kioussis then added the second with an accurate finish in the latter stages, making the points safe.

However, Harwich pressed in the closing minutes and went close to notching a consolation.

Today’s match was watched by a bumper crowd of 411.
