HARWICH Indoor Bowls Club were pipped in a mixed friendly triple match against East Bergholt.

With just two ends to go, they were leading by one shot overall.

However, finishing the stronger, Bergholt never gave up, taking 14 shots to secure a 98-85 victory.

This was a very tight match with little to choose between the teams.

Michael Reeder, skipping wife Jean and Chris Barker, was the top Harwich rink, winning by five shots.

Harwich also had success with skip Mike Ryan, Charlie Furtado and Diana Jacobs winning by one shot.

The closest-fought rink was that with Sandy Mooney in charge.

Having been equal several times, they just lost out at the end by three shots.

The rinks with Barbara Dale and Ashley Pinto in charge both lost by five shots.

Captain Brenda Vernaven’s rink was leading by two shots on the 11th end.

Unfortunately, they fell away, losing by six shots.

This was a very commendable performance by East Bergholt.
