SUDBURY II 5

HARWICH AND DOVERCOURT 7

Suffolk Women's League premier division

AS the score suggests, this was a game full of attacking flair and goals.

It was a superb match and a wonderful example of Suffolk Premier League hockey.

Sudbury caught Harwich cold and opened the scoring in the first minute.

Harwich woke up and produced an equaliser within ten minutes, with Caz Greenall firing home from a short corner for her first goal of the season.

The Harwich defence was put under long spells of pressure, with the versatile Carolyn Rowland at sweeper, supported by Tracey Eagle and Lucy Henshall.

Anything which found a way through was brilliantly dealt with by keeper Miah Reynolds.

Harwich had their chances and, just before the break, Sophie Berryman put Harwich ahead.

The second half started as the first, with Sudbury equalising within 20 seconds of the restart.

Play continued to be end-to-end, with the Harwich midfield of Berryman, Emma Joslin, Nicki Kudela, Josie Brosnan and Shirley Sampson working extremely hard.

It was Berryman and Joslin who set up Rachel Griffin for a Harwich lead.

Not to be outdone, Sudbury came back again to level the scores.

Harwich then had a decisive spell with Berryman, Joslin and Kudela getting hold of central midfield for a time.

This led to Sophie Southgate getting a fourth with a dive to divert in a Berryman cross, Griffin adding her second and Kudela diverting home a Griffin short-corner strike.

Sudbury came back with another goal after a great save from Reynolds, only to see Southgate score at the other end from close range after a short corner.

Sudbury had the final word, scoring in the dying minutes.

This win should see Harwich end up in second place overall and was definitely the best game of the season, with the fitness of Berryman, Southgate, Joslin and Griffin seeing them home.

Tomorrow, Harwich entertain bottom of the league Ipswich IV.
