MISTLEY Cricket Club won by ten wickets at Brockley, in Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship division five, having skittled their hosts for just 84.

Dylan Day took five for 29 and Jack Fifield four for 27.

James Garwood and Gareth Stevens both finished on 37 not out.

The club's third team also won, in division nine east, playing away at DBSL.

They bowled their hosts out for 80, with Robert Hawes taking four for 15, Oliver Fifield three for 13 and Harry Fifield and Carl White both getting one wicket each.

Mark Mills and Nick Simpson shared an opening partnership of 64, before Simpson was bowled by Leggett for 46.

Josh Jackson then joined Mills and they completed the run chase.

On Sunday, Mistley hosted Clacton at New Road, in division one of the North Essex League.

They had previously won a close away encounter with one ball to spare.

Clacton won the toss and chose to bat on a hot, sunny afternoon.

With the score on just 13, Haydn Erfurth fell to a sharp catch by Simon Everett, in the slips off the bowling of Dylan Day.

Day also had Daniel Smith caught by wicketkeeper George Hutton 12 runs later.

Kieron Parkes and Bradley Pitts took the score to 84, before Hutton claimed his second catch, this time from the bowling of James Scott, to dismiss Parkes for 51.

James Stamatis took two wickets, both caught by Adrian Stockton, and captain Tim Scott bowled James Lee and then had Pitts lbw for 51.

The visitors looked in trouble at 136 for seven but 44 not out by Dave Fitzpatrick and 44 from Matthew O’Brien, before being bowled by Tim Scott, helped take the total to a competitive 235 for eight.

Hutton got Mistley off to a promising start, hitting two fours, but was then caught by wicketkeeper Smith, bringing James Scott to the crease in the first over.

In a hurry, due to needing to leave early, Stamatis set about the bowling in a brief but effective demonstration of attacking shots, reaching 50 from just 16 deliveries before getting out to a good low catch by O’Brien at third man, when the score was on 67 during the fifth over.

Stockton and James Scott added 52 before Stockton was lbw to Chamberlain for 16.

Dylan Day and Simon Everett fell for one run each before Trevor Mills steadied the innings, sharing in a 26-run partnership with Scott until he was out lbw to Fitzpatrick for two.

Oliver Fifield was bowled without scoring, bringing captain Timothy Scott in to join his brother when the score was 165 for seven, needing 69 to win from eight overs and one ball.

With quick running, well-struck drives and neatly-placed fine cut shots, the two batsmen added 66 in 46 balls when Tim Scott was caught near the boundary for 33 from 22 balls.

With three balls remaining, Mistley needed five to win, keeping spectators on the edge of their seats.

However, as the batsmen crossed while the catch was in the air, James Scott was on strike.

A full toss enabled him to free his arms and finish the match in one delivery, dispatching the ball over the mid-wicket boundary for six to win the match with two balls to spare.

He finished on 111 not out from 98 balls, having hit 18 fours and a six.
