VIV Dale hosted her Lady Captain's Day at Harwich and Dovercourt Golf Club.

Following the success of last year, the club's men were again invited to take part.

The day belonged to Glynis Hutchence, who not only won the ladies' singles stableford competition but also the mixed four ball better ball with playing partner Tony Challis.

She also won the ladies' shot of the day.

Club captain Marcus Ballard presented Sue Keen with his prize for the second-placed lady while president Bill Carter gave his prize for the third-placed lady to Chris Bradford.

Kate Fender and Chris Bradford were the winners of Ruth Stapleton's lady vice-captain's prizes for NTP and NTL respectively.

For the gents, Mark Gillet also had a successful day, winning the four ball better ball mixed competition with playing partner Georgie Grout, as well as NTL and gents' shot of the day. Ballard was NTP.

The players were later joined by past lady captains and former lady members for the celebratory post-competition dinner and prize presentation.

Dale thanked everyone who had contributed to making her day a resounding success.

Meanwhile, Ballard hosted his men's charity competition.

The best three scores from each four ball counted for the team prize, while there was also a yellow ball competition.

Prizes were also available for the longest drive and nearest the pin.

A total of 11 teams entered and the afternoon started with lunch and pre-golf drinks, before the teams moved out to their starting tees for a traditional shotgun start at 1.30pm.

Everything was superbly organised, with the exception of the weather.

All players got battered by the wind and soaked by the rain that poured down for about 20 minutes.

Despite this minor setback, the winning team managed to score a very impressive 129 points.

This came from Dovercourt DIY, which consisted of Matt Stace, Marcus Hawkins, Michael Griggs and Gareth Heath.

Team Caravan Jedi - John Oakley, Lee Cooper, Steve Lyons and Mel Boley - won the yellow ball competition with 42 points.

Griggs won the longest drive and Michael Heard managed to record his nearest the pin distance correctly to win that prize.

Afterwards, all competitors retired to the clubhouse for the presentation, drinks and buffet.

A lot of money was raised for the captain's charities.
