COGGESHALL Town held on to top spot in the Thurlow Nunn League premier division but their perfect start to the season was brought to a halt by Felixstowe and Walton United.

In a meeting of two sides with 100 per cent winning records to start their campaigns, it was Coggeshall's that was brought to a close by a 2-1 defeat.

The Seedgrowers took the lead just before half-time when Nnamdi Nwachuku fired in from the penalty spot after he was fouled in the area, but Felixstowe equalised, also from a penalty, early in the second half.

Felixstowe had to sustain long periods of pressure as Coggeshall looked for a winner, but it was the Suffolk side who snatched one when Josh Kerridge headed a corner powerfully home shortly before the final whistle.

STANWAY ROVERS were another premier division side who lost as they were beaten 1-0 at home by Ely City, but there were similar-looking 1-1 draws for FC CLACTON, WIVENHOE TOWN and BRANTHAM ATHLETIC.

Wivenhoe took the lead in their home game against Histon as Lewis Blanchett won and then converted a penalty, but the visitors fired in a long-range equaliser in the second half.

FC Clacton also went ahead at Godmanchester Rovers, but were denied a second when a penalty was saved and they were also then pegged back after the break.

Brantham were another side who went ahead at Gorleston as Jack Smith headed in from a corner by Craig Hughes, who then saw a penalty kept out by the home keeper and the hosts grabbed an equaliser in the second half.
