TWO of Harwich Boxing Club's upcoming members made their way to Dagenham's Roundhouse to contest the National Association of Boys and Girls Club's quarter-finals.
Welterweight Paul Gordon, 21, faced the challenge of Tom Bennett, from the renowned Repton Boxing Club in the class D section.
Little separated the two combatants in the opener as both had their moments of success.
The second session saw Gordon move into top gear as he forced the pace and pushed Bennett to the ropes, especially dominating the closing seconds of the round.
Bennett dug in for the last session, but the Harwich boy was equal to the task, eventually taking a split points decision.
Light heavyweight Pat Allen Cripps took on Lansbury ABC puncher Terry Conroy over the three three-minute round distance.
A rapier like left jab peppered Conroy as Allen Cripps took the opener.
More accurate shots from distance saw the Harwich lad sneak ahead, although Conroy did have his own successes with his attacks.
In the end, 20-year-old Allen Cripp's efficient shot selection saw him take a unanimous points decision to join his club mate in the national semi-finals in Bristol on Sunday.
It will be a busy weekend for the club as they host their annual open show at the park pavilion on Saturday.
The action gets underway at 2pm, with around 15 bouts scheduled to take place.
