HARWICH Swimming Club travelled to Beacontree Heath for the second round of the Essex League.

All their swimmers performed extremely well, finishing in third place overall - two places higher than the first round in February.

There were first places for Matthew Kent, in the 13 and under 50 metres backstroke, and Daryl Rands, in the Open 100m breaststroke.

Both swimmers also got second places in their other individual races.

New gala swimmers Daisy Ward and Noah Thorpe competed extremely well in their events, as did Molly Richardson and Rachana Reeve in the 11 and under age group.

There were a total of 16 personal bests, with Skye Harris getting two of them in the 13 and under age group.

This, together with good relay splits, earned her the swimmer of the gala award.

Also swimming on the night were Eleanor Newman, Grace Woolley, Louis Manhood, Thomas Richardson, Luke and Daniel Powell, Ella Harris, Raquel Da Silva Williams, Max Chilver, Ruby Hammond, Zoe Godfrey, Stephanie Rice, Zachary and Joshua Herbert, Callum Everitt, Joshua Annett, Sam Hand and Megan Davies.

The final points total was Barking and Dagenham 218 points, Runnymede 185, Harwich 125, Leyton 103 and Hornchurch 97.
