HARWICH and Dovercourt Golf Club's Leslie F Wood team enjoyed success in their first-round encounter with Chelmsford.

They were led by Paul Simms and the final score was 9½-5½.

It was the home side that edged these matches 3-2.

In the afternoon, all ten players competed in singles matches to decide who would progress to the second round.
