HARWICH's Sue Daish was invested as High Steward as she became the first ever woman to be invested in the town's 420 history.
The investiture took place on Thursday in Harwich’s historic Guildhall with the speech of proposal being made by councillor Garry Calver and seconded by the Mayor of Harwich, Maria Fowler.
Sue Daish was Harwich Town Council's unanimous choice for the position which is for life.
Sue takes over from Chris Strachan, who is the first High Steward of Harwich to stand down from the position, with Sue’s investiture taking place on Chris’ 85th birthday.
Having taken the oath of office and donning the civic robes of the High Steward, Sue Daish ended her speech of thanks saying: “Home is where the heart is and her heart is in Harwich”.
The investiture was followed by a civic church service in Saint Nicholas church which included a medley of jazz music in addition to a later reception in the Guildhall.
Sue said: “I am still amazed that I was even considered for the position but it is a great honour for which I am very grateful".
"I will do everything possible to repay the trust that has been shown in me. Harwich deserves nothing less.”
