(Great Square, Market Place & Woolpack Lane, Braintree) (Prohibition of Vehicles) Order 2020 (Various Roads, Braintree) (One Way) Order 2020 (Fairfield Road, Braintree) (Bus Gate) Order 2020 (Various Roads, Braintree) (Prohibition of Motor Vehicles) Order 2020
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Orders under Sections 1(1), 2(1) to (3), 3(2), 4(1) and Parts III and IV of Schedule 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the orders:
1. To prohibit all vehicles from using the following length of roads in the District of Braintree:

Road - Description:
Market Place - From its junction with Manor Street/Fairfield Road in a north westerly direction to its junction with Great Square.
Great Square -  From its junction with High Street/Bank Street in an easterly direction to its junction with Market Place.
'The Essex County Council (Market Place, Braintree) (Prohibition of Driving) Order 2006' is hereby revoked.

2. To prohibit motor vehicles from using the following lengths of roads in the District of Braintree:

Road - Description
Bank Street - From its junction with Swan Side, in a southerly direction to its junction with High Street/Great Square
High Street - From its junction with Bank Street/Great Square in a south westerly direction to its junction with St Michael's Lane.

There will be an exemption to facilitate motor vehicles to load or unload goods to or from premises situated on the roads above between the hours of 6am to 10am. There will also be an exemption for those vehicles who have been issued with a permit from Braintree District Council to access the above lengths of roads on Wednesdays and Saturdays between the hours of 6am and 4pm.
'The Essex County Council (Various Streets, Braintree) (Prohibition of Driving) Order 2000' is hereby revoked.

3. To introduce a Bus Gate on the following length of Fairfield Road, in the District of Braintree:

Road -  Description
Fairfield Road, Braintree - SOUTHBOUND CARRIAGEWAY ONLY: From its junction with victoria Street in a southerly direction for a distance of 6 metres.

Buses, taxis, motorcycles and pedal cycles will be permitted through the bus gate.

4. To introduce a one way restriction on the following lengths of roads in the District of Braintree:

Road - Permitted Direction of Travel
Bank Street, Braintree: From its junction with Swan Side to its junction with B1256 Coggeshall Road. - Northerly
Bank Street, Braintree: From its junction with Swan Side to its junction with High Street/Great Square - Southerly
High Street, Braintree: From its junction with Great Square, south west to its junction with St Michaels Road. - South westerly
Manor Street, Braintree: From its junction with Railway Street, west to a point approximately 117.3 metres east of its junction with Fairfield Road/Market Place - Westerly
St Michael's Lane, Braintree: From a point approximately 22 metres east of the junction with High Street to High Street. - North westerly 
Swan Side, Braintree: From its junction with Dairy Lane to its junction with Bank Street - Westerly

The Essex County Council (Various Streets, Braintree) (One-Way Traffic) Order 1997 is hereby revoked.
Date of operation: The Order will come into operation on 18 September 2020.

Documents can be made available for inspection 8.30am-5.30pm Mon-Thurs and 8.30am-5pm on Friday at Essex County Council, County Hall E block main reception, Market Road, Chelmsford if so required following the current social distancing restrictions. Alternatively documents can be posted to you upon request. Application to the high court Anyone who wishes to question the validity of the Order of any provision contained in it on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 or on the grounds that any requirement of the Act, or any instrument made under it, has not been complied with in relation to the Order, may within six weeks from the date of the making of the Order apply to the High Court for this purpose.
