Crime and Court Reporter

Daniel Rees is the Gazette’s crime and court reporter, covering everything from bike thefts to murder trials. As well as reporting from magistrates’ and crown courts, Daniel also attends crime scenes and interviews the chief constable of Essex Police once a month. Daniel is also leading the Gazette’s coverage of knife crime in Colchester, having spoken to officers, campaigners, and victims of knife offences to highlight the importance of the issue. Before joining the Gazette newsroom in 2021, Daniel studied English at Aberdeen and Durham University, and earned an NCTJ Gold Standard Diploma in 2020.
