This giant of the football sim is never going to end, which is a great thing. Check back to the very early ones, and they were pretty darn ace back then too.

So, here we are. Already at number 15 with top bloke Lionel Messi on the cover, and now we get emotional intelligence.

Imagine you are playing as Messi in the World Cup and you can see the irony of that new factor.

He must have been sick as a parrot and far from being over the moon. I miss those player clichés.

EA said: “For the first time ever, players will show emotion based on the context of the match. With over 600 new emotional reactions, players now respond to pivotal moments on the pitch – bad tackles, missed chances, epic goals - as they would in real life.”

Haa, well Mr Messi had a few of those missed chances.

We also get dynamic match presentation with the commentators taking a quick look at how the crowd feels.

The increased power of the new consoles means team management can be tossed into the mix, and all this is before we get to actually playing the game with its increased trickiness and clever ball positioning.

Even the goalies have had a makeover with an astonishing 50 plus save animations. And you can see them all when Messi plays. Oh, stop it. Poor guy – will develop a complex to go with his 16 million Euro annual salary.

Then there are team tactics, boosted visuals, and what EA call a living pitch which gradually wears out.

The list is almost endless, I assure you, with plenty of different play modes.

The result is yet another jump in style and quality for this amazing series.
