OK, right off – this is the finest racing game out there on console at present. Bar none, this is the one to have if you are remotely into ‘proper’ racing.

Forza has developed nicely over its life and now so suddenly, we are at number six and I can’t wait until number seven.  Weirdly, I went back to 5 for some fun the other day and to compare, and found myself playing for a couple of hours.

Not that 5 is better than 6, it is just that it is still good. But today we are looking at 6 and there is a big update for me. Tracks - lots of nice new circuits. Number 5 was light in my opinion, and 6 has 10 more. Top job. Needless to say there are four million cars. OK, well, not that many, but lots.

Developer Turn 10 says of their marquee game: “Experience unrelenting action in the most beautiful and comprehensive racing game of this generation. Collect, customize, and race over 460 Forzavista cars, all with working cockpits, opening doors and full damage. Compete in epic 24-player races across 26 world-famous locales. Master wet weather and night racing on your road to victory.”

And that wet weather is a nightmare. It will cause you to aquaplane so avoid deep puddles and rivers threading across the surface and it makes your wipers work hard too. And play from the cockpit – it makes so much sense and marvel at the water drops streaming across the glass.

You have stunning realism at 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second. How about night racing under the stadium lights of Daytona and in the utter blackness of Le Mans' Mulsanne?

You can go for reliving classic races and epic rivalries in the all-new career mode that will take pretty much forever to complete. The utter nightmare of cones is still present, but optional.

And there are endurances races that will take well over an hour to finish.

While we are on the pretty stuff, you can see small dust storms blow across the track at Laguna Seca, and misty clouds coming down Conrod Straight at Bathurst, plus leaves falling as you approach Ascari through the forest. Beautiful touches.

Rewinds are still there in case you get it wrong, and if you do, the other cars around you have the same chance to also escape an incident. Amazing.

I absolutely love this game – I am astonished at the way it feels, the tweaks, the weather, the lighting, but especially the way it feels. This is a racing game, not an exercise in artistry.

But, heck, if it looks good too, who’s complaining.
