LOVERS of traditional Welsh music are in for a treat in Rhyl next month with a little taste of what’s to come in the Denbigh Eisteddfod.

Hosted by Sgorio commentator Nic Parry, fundraising has never been so easy with the sweetener of two vibrant and renowned Welsh mixed choirs at the Rhyl Pavilion for An Evening of Music with CôrDydd and Côr Rhuthun.

The evening will aid the Urdd Appeal for Rhuddlan, Rhyl, Dyserth and Bodelwyddan 2020 campaign.

CôrDydd is a mixed choir of 50 voices based in Cardiff, Wales who perform a dynamic and interesting programme of classical and contemporary works.

The choir has travelled abroad including Hong Kong and Barbados and toured The Messiah with the Welsh Baroque Choir, and won their very first accolade when crowned BBC Radio Cymru Choir of the Year and have since appeared often on national television and radio networks.

Joining them is another of the new generation of choirs which challenged the superiority of the male voice choir tradition in Wales.

The choir began as a group of girls in 1980, progressing to a young mixed choir in 1981, ultimately assuming the mantle of the now well-established Cor Ruthin.

Cor Ruthin has won the National Eisteddfod mixed choirs competition six times. It has also achieved a third place at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod, as well as winning a prestigious choral competition in Sligo, Ireland.

The event takes place on Saturday, February 1 at 7pm. Tickets cost £20, available from rhylpavilion.co.uk or by calling the box office on 01745 330000.
