A SENIOR councillor has given his reassurance that a High Street will not be lost after fears were raised for its future.
Carlo Guglielmi, Tendring councillor for Manningtree, said concerns buildings would no longer be used as shops in the town centre had come from a “misunderstanding” of the forthcoming local plan.
Town councillors feared amendments to Tendring’s local plan, which outlines how the district will be developed over the next 15 years, would see three shops in Manningtree High Street ripped of their status as primary shopping frontages.
But Mr Guglielmi said the new policy in fact just excluded the three High Street buildings from a special new protection for retail use sites.
He said: "I would do anything in my power to protect the high street and the businesses there."
