ESSEX’S top cop has announced new plans to move more officers back into towns and villages.
Chief Constable Stephen Kavanagh said 500 officers will return to local stations from September.
The force has abandoned its blueprint for the future and is returning to traditional policing roles just two years after a major restructure.
The new plan reverses much of the previous restructure in 2012 which saw response officers stationed in central hubs, as well as cuts to the mounted unit, the marine unit and several police stations, as part of a bid to make £45million of cuts by 2014/15.
Mr Kavanagh said: “We will put resources where they are most needed."
