SAILORS have recreated a photograph taken on VE Day to honour the heroes who fought in the Second WorldWar.
Members of Harwich and Dovercourt Sailing Club raised a cup of rum to pay homage to the crew of the LBK6 – a historic D Day Landing barge – which the group nowuse as their headquarters on Gas HouseQuay in Harwich.
The vessel was used in the liberation of Holland after it took part in the DDay landings in Normandy. It was handed over to the DutchNavy after peace was declared in Europe to help the starving people of Rotterdam, whichhad been bombed by the Germans.
It is the last remaining D-Day landing barge in the world.
On Friday, club members raised their cups, just as the Royal Navy Crewdid on board the vessel on VE Day in 1945.
