CONCERNED councillors will question an MP and a top police officer after a spate of thefts in a village.

A police crime briefing document, viewed by councillors at Lawford Parish Council, showed there had been 14 crimes recorded in Lawford in May.

The crimes included thefts from cars, burglaries and criminal damage.

The council will write to Harwich and North Essex MP Bernard Jenkin and Tendring district commander Russ Cole to seek reassurance about policing in the area.

Councillor Carlo Guglielmi said: “This is a very worrying report in front of us.Idon’t think we have ever had anything as bad as this.

“The police and the NHS are the most sacred services.

“Enough is enough. How many crimes go undetected?

“If we are going to grow our population, we have got to have services in place. We have got to be able to cope with this. We have got to think outside the box here.”

Fellow councillor Jennie Collier said it was unfair residents seemed to be expected to accept a cut in policing.
