A DARING duo are taking on a swimming challenge in memory of a tragic baby girl.

Friends Terry Fay and Joe Francis, both of Dovercourt will be swimming three miles from West End Beach to Stone Pier and back again to raise money for Spinal Muscular Atrophy Support UK on Sunday August 30.

Mr Francis’ daughter Nelle lost her battle with SMA earlier this year aged just five months.

This will be Mr Fay’s third swimming challenge in as many years having previously crossed the River Stour from Wrabness to Holbrook and back but this is the longest distance he has attempted so far.

“This will be the furthest but it doesn’t seem so because we are not crossing a river or anything like that,” he said.

“Joe taught my son when he went up to the Harwich and Dovercourt High School which is how we got to know each other.

“Next year there have been discussions about swimming to Walton or even to Sealand so hopefully the ante can be upped every time.”

So far more than £600 has been raised. To donate visit justgiving.com/Terry-Fay3
