FINES of more than £1million have been handed to two windfarm firms after a worker was crushed to death at Harwich International Port and another left with life-changing injuries.
The men were part of a team of engineers at Parkeston Quay on May 21, 2010, loading wind turbine blades for the Greater Gabbard off-shore windfarm.
A 2.11 tonne part of a blade fell off, crushing the two men.
Per Terp, a 45-year-old Dutch national, was declared dead at the scene.
Frank Kroeger, 43, was left with life-changing injuries.
At Chelmsford Crown Court yesterday, Fluor was fined £275,000 and ordered to pay costs of £271,048 and Siemens Windpower were fined £375,000 and £105,355 in costs for health and safety breaches.
