A Halloween house of horrors has raised £264 for a hospice in memory of a woman who tragically died from brain cancer.

Gary and Caroline Pringle’s house in Juniper Crescent, Witham was decked out in spooky decorations to raise money for Farleigh Hospice.

The hospice cared for Gary’s sister Tracy Pringle, 46, before her death on New Year’s Eve.

It is the first year the couple, who have decorated their home each year for 15 years, will be raising money for a great cause.

The event has been hailed a success with trick or treaters turning up from 4pm yesterday.

Gary said: "It went really, really well - much better than expected.

"We raised about £264 and my father in law has said he will make it up to £300 for us.

Braintree and Witham Times:

"A couple of people also said they had come out without cash and could they pop some money in an envelope and put it through the door.

"We had out first trick or treaters at about 4pm and it was over by 8pm."

Braintree and Witham Times:

Gary, 45, who works in IT, said he would be continuing the event next year.

He added: "It is now the daunting process of preparing for next year.

"We have already started to think what we can do to make it better."
