Festive fun is on its way to Braintree town centre with a new magical Christmas trail which launches this weekend.

Braintree Council has teamed up with 26 businesses across the town to create the Reindeer Trail.

The free trail follows the story of Father Christmas and his missing reindeer.

Saint Nick needs the help of children and their families to find his missing companions who disappeared while shopping for presents in the town.

The trail launches on Saturday and follows the success of the Witchcraft and Wizardry Trail held in the summer.

Participants will go on a journey through Braintree town to find the 26 reindeers hiding in shops and window displays.

Each time a little one finds a reindeer they can match it with the correct shop or business listed on the front of the map.

Once they have completed the trail, each person will receive a certificate of thanks from Father Christmas.

They will also be entered into a prize draw to win a festive hamper and a chance to help switch on Braintree’s Christmas lights.

The light switch on will take place on Saturday, December 2, at 5pm.

Entries received between November 4 and 30 will be entered into the draw for the lights.

Tom Cunningham, cabinet member for economic development said: “This trail is just one of the many exciting events taking place in the town in the lead up to Christmas.

“I’m delighted businesses have jumped on board to take part which will bring many visitors into the town.

“If you are looking for fun activities to do this Christmas with your family, children or youngsters, then this is the perfect way to get into the festive spirit.”

Trail maps can be picked up free of charge at Braintree Town Hall.

Alternatively they can be downloaded via the council’s website at braintree.gov.uk/reindeertrail.
