The chairman of a residents' group has stood down after turning 80.
Terry Cooper announced his departure from Convent Lane and Broad Road Action Group (CLABRAG) earlier this month.
The group, which has some members opposed to the 1,000 home Straits Mill development, was informed by a newsletter sent out to members on Saturday.
A statement from Mr Cooper said: "It was my intention to stand down as chairman in April last as I turned 80.
"There was so much going on with the Church Street proposed development as well as ongoing discussions with Gallaghers before they recently submitted their planning application that I decided to stay on for a few months.
"With regard to Straits Mill I believe we have done our best for existing residents.
"There are no campaigns outstanding so this is an opportune time for me to stand down.
"Over the years I have received so many messages of support from local residents which I have really appreciated."
