A GENEROUS village gardener answered a school's SOS appeal to transform an overgrown patch of land into an outdoor learning space.

In April, Two Village Primary in Mayes Lane, Ramsey, called out to parents and residents to come forward and help clear and plant the area for all ages in the school to use.

The land, which sits at the end of the school field, was previously known as The Garden of Curiosities but had become so overgrown it was inaccessible to the children.

After hearing the appeal, Ainsley Bird, proprietor of Great Oaktree Land Services, gave up two days of his time to carry out work for free.

Mr Bird and his team cleared the overgrowth and tidied the area, setting the foundation work for an ongoing project to develop the area into a new area for outside learning.

Headteacher Natasha Bennett said: "The garden was so overgrown, we are so grateful to Ainsley and his helpers for all of their hard work.

"The garden looks amazing and the children will now be able to use it as a learning space."

Mr Bird also used wood reclaimed from the site of the Old Ramsey School to make and donate a post and beam archway at the entrance of the garden.

Mrs Bennett added: "It is such a kind and thoughtful gesture.

"It’s lovely to have a piece of history at school."

Mr Bird said he was keen to help the school
