A COUNCILLOR from Thorpe has been shortlisted for a prestigious award from a local government thinktank.

Thorpe Parish Council chairman Dan Land, who is also the village’s district councillor, has been shortlisted for the community champion award at the Local Government Information Unit’s Councillor Achievement Awards.

The annual awards are the only national ceremony to honour the hard work of councillors from across the country that often goes unrecognised.

Organisers said that with hundreds of nominations, competition was extremely tight this year.

Mr Land said he understood he was nominated by a number of villagers. some of whom have worked in local government.

He said: “It is an honour to be shortlisted for the award - I don’t think any councillors from Tendring Council have been before. I try to work as hard as I can for people and to do it as quickly and efficiently.”

Jonathan Carr-West, chief executive of the Local Government Information Unit, said: “We received nearly 200 nominations for the 2018 Councillor Achievement Awards, so it’s a huge achievement to be shortlisted.

“The shortlisted councillors went above and beyond the call of duty in 2018, making a real difference to their residents.”

Winners will be announced at the London Guildhall on November 6.
