SYMBOLIC flags created by residents to remember U-boats which surrendered during the First World War need to be decorated by the end of the month.
The Surrender and Sanctuary Project is holding a parade to mark the centenary of more than 120 German U-boats surrendering off the Harwich coast on November 18.
As part of the parade residents have been invited to make flags which will be used as bunting on a life-sized willow U-boat to be displayed on the seafront for a short time.
Residents will be given the name of a U-boat which they can research on uboat.net to find out where the boat was made, who commanded it and what happened to it.
The name of the U-boat must be included on the flag and can be decorated how residents choose.
Tabitha Runacres, community engagement officer, said: "We encourage creators to use motifs and designs of the period – please remember these are U-boats from the Imperial German Navy from World War One.
"We hope that all the makers and designers involved will come and participate in the parade and enjoy come food and music with us."
The flags will need to be completed by October 29.
