A YOGA and vegan festival is set to debut at Essex University next month.

The day-long event looks set to be attended by hundreds of people with interest having gathered momentum on its Facebook page.

The Essex Yoga and Vegan Festival aims to bring together yoga and veganism and will take place between 9am and 6pm on Sunday November 11 at the university's Wivenhoe campus.

The festival is set to include meditation classes, talks on mental health, classes for children, and an outdoor vegan market where visitors can buy vegan products and vegan food.

November 1 is celebrated as World Vegan Day around the globe and November is celebrated at World Vegan Month to mark the formation of Vegan Society in the UK.

According to reports, Veganism in the UK has grown by 700 percent in the last two years and earlier this year the university's first student-run vegan society was founded.

The festival is being hosted by Yogific, an organisation headquartered in London that hosts yoga and vegan festivals across Europe.

Organisers Kris Atherden and Grace Fox said: "We are overwhelmed by the response that we have received in Colchester.

"Our vegan yoga teachers from Ireland and Netherlands will be joining teachers from London and Colchester to create a yoga feast while vegan stalls will offer an amazing variety of vegan food.

"It's great to see that the University of Essex's has active student-run yoga and vegan societies who will be supporting the festival."

Entry to the event is free for children and £3.50 for adults.
