A COMMUTER says water left on trains after they are washed is creating a hazard.

Christopher Hill, from Colchester, has been using Greater Anglia’s refurbished trains to travel to London.

However, almost every time he has found pools of water on the floor.

He said: “I’ve noticed a significant amount of water in the door areas, even on dry days.

“At a guess when the trains get cleaned overnight the water either from cleaning the floors or from outside the train gets on to the hard floor and is never cleaned up.

“Before the refurbishment the door areas were carpeted so this wasn’t an issue, but now they are hard floors.

“It’s a major slip hazard.

I’ve reported the issue many times each time giving the number of the carriage and photos.

“There is still no action. If someone less steady on their feet slips on this it’ll be an accident waiting to happen.”

Greater Anglia’s customer relations team responded to Mr Hill with an apology and added: “We understand passengers want to travel in a clean and comfortable environment and it is our aim to provide this.

“I was disappointed to read we failed to meet these expectations for you.

“We try to keep our trains in an acceptable condition by cleaning and servicing them thoroughly at the end of the day. “ However, as they are in constant use, it is not always possible to keep them as clean as we would like at all times.”

A Greater Anglia spokesman said: “We are investigating a problem with water on the floor by some doors of some of our refurbished Essex commuter trains.

“While we work with the supplier to solve the problem, we have asked depot staff to mop up any residual water after the trains have been washed.

“We apologise to Mr Hill and we’d like to assure him that since he complained we have been taking action to resolve the issue.”
