POLICE were called to a supermarket following a reports of threats being made by teenage girls after an alleged shoplifting incident.

Officers were called to B&M, at Waterglade Retail Park, in Old Road, Clacton, at about 6.40pm on Thursday.

One witness, who did not want to be named, said a customer was allegedly assaulted during the incident and a plant pot was thrown at an employee. He claimed threats were then made by a girl towards people in the discount store.

Insp Darren Deex, of the Clacton local policing team, said: “Police were called to reports of threats being made and a shoplifting offence by a group of three young persons.

“Officers from the Clacton local policing team arrived within 20 minutes and detained a 13-year-old female suspected to be connected to the incident a short distance from the retail park.

“Officers are investigating the circumstances of the incident and this investigation remains ongoing.”

A spokesman for B&M said the company would not comment on the incident while there is an ongoing police investigation.
