Plans to turn a former police station into a nursery have been recommended for approval.

Witham Police Station closed its doors in March 2016 after a series of cutbacks at Essex Police.

An application was submitted in February to convert the Newland Street building into a Clever Clogs day nursery.

The planning agenda for Tuesday shows the application has been recommended for approval by planning development manager Christopher Paggi.

The planning report said: "A number of concerns have been raised in respect to the noise that would emanate from the site; in particular to the play area on the south east tip and associated activities.

"The Council's environmental health officer reviewed the particulars of the application and had no objection, subject to a number of conditions to help protect neighbouring amenity. In particular, a condition relating to the provision of some acoustic fencing.

"It is considered the development is acceptable."

There would be ten cars for visitors and six spaces for staff.

The application received 32 comments objecting to the proposal and six in support of it.
