EMERGENCY services have been called to a five vehicle crash on the A12 at the Essex Suffolk border.

The crash took place near the East Bergholt junction of the road on the southbound carriageway just before 4pm on Sunday.

Traffic has built up around the scene of the crash and part of the carriageway has been temporarily closed.

There are understood to be several injuries, however the nature of these are not yet known.

They are not believed to be life-threatening, however one casualty has been cut free from their vehicle

Five fire engines from Suffolk were despatched to the A12 this evening.

A diversion route has been put in place whilst the road remains closed.

Police are releasing vehicles via the rear of the queue when possible.

Recovery has been requested and is en-route to scene.

The road will remain closed until recovery operations are complete.
