THE family of a bouncer who was murdered on Clacton seafront will mark the anniversary of his death this weekend.

Gary Chick, 40, was attacked as he walked near the town’s Venetian Bridge on November 17, 1996.

Mr Chick, who had been working at Fibbers nightclub on the night he died, was hit over the head with what was believed to be a hammer.

Daughter Roxanne Marlborough, 33, was aged just 11 when her dad was killed.

She will mark the anniversary on Saturday with her family, including her children Ann-Marie, 15, Conrad, 13 and Charli, 11.

She said: “We will go down to the seafront to lay flowers for dad – it’s been 22 years since he was murdered.

“It’s something we do every year to remember him.

“This year my sister Laura has moved back down here, so we will go down together with the children.

“She has a three-month-old baby, which she has named Gary after dad.”

Roxanne appealed for anyone with information about her father’s murder to come forward.

Police confirmed they received new information relating to the murder last year, but Roxanne said she has been told that it “has come to nothing”.

“There’s been no new information this year, but Essex Police say there will never close a murder case,” she said.

“This time of year it does get harder.

“But we want to remind people about what happened and that we are still looking for the people responsible.

“You never know – it could jog someone’s memory.

“We can’t rest until we get justice and dad’s killer is found.”

A man was charged with Mr Chick’s murder and a trial was held at Chelmsford Crown Court in 1999, but the defendant was acquitted.

Mr Chick died after being attacked by three masked men at 2.40am as he was walking home to Kingsman Drive after having a few drinks with other doormen at the old Waverley Hotel.
