WHILE the town changes around it the Red Lion Hotel remains where it has always been.

And these vintage images through the decades show how the High Street has changed – and the hotel also.

The main block of the building was built in 1481-2 by the first Duke of Norfolk, as his town-house in Colchester.

He was a key supporter of King Richard III during the Wars of the Roses.

The land behind the building belonged to the Duke and, later, to the Red Lion Inn.

Now the Brook Red Lion Hotel, the Grade I Listed building has been through a number of subtle name changes over the years and been re-launched on a number of occasions.
