SWEET choral sounds will fill the air when a Christmas concert heralds the start of the festive season

Clacton Choral Society’s annual concert will feature soaring performances on the harp and organ, together with beautiful choral singing.

This year’s theme is Joyful English Music with Harp and Organ.

The centrepiece of the evening will be Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols, featuring harpist Lynne Creasey.

Lynne started playing the harp at the age of 11 and joined the Essex Youth Orchestra at 14.

With the orchestra, she toured Europe and the US.

The talented musician now plays as a soloist with various ensembles and orchestras and has played at numerous major venues including the London Palladium, St Paul’s Cathedral and The Royal Albert Hall.

Her career highlights include touring England with the Moscow City Ballet and accompanying the Southend Festival Chorus in Ypres Cathedral.

She has also participated in the making of CDs including solo album Just Harp.

Flanking the centrepiece performance will be renditions of Elgar’s Te Deum and Benedictus, followed by two of Gustav Holst’s compositions - Four Old English Carols and his lovely medley Christmas Day.

Expect lively unaccompanied Spirituals from the choir, before Christmas Carols for everyone to sing along with and enjoy.

The concert will be held in St James’ Church, Tower Road, Clacton, at 6.30pm on Sunday, December 9.

A choral society spokesman said: “The acoustics inside the church are wonderful.”

Tickets cost £10 and are available by calling 01255 221 511 or emailing debietccs@gmail.com.
