ANGELS will be descending on Dovercourt for Christmas to host a festive afternoon tea for people experiencing loneliness.

Harwich Angels, a local fundraising group, has joined together with Harwich and Dovercourt Cricket Club to hold a Christmas afternoon tea complete with mini mince pies, Yule logs, and mulled wine.

The afternoon tea will be free for residents who don’t want to feel alone this Christmas, and there are 50 places available for the event.

Danielle Grubb, manger of the cricket club, in West End Lane, Dovercourt, said the afternoon tea was a joint idea between herself and Andrea King, one of the Harwich Angels.

She said: “I think it’s easy to forget about people who are alone at Christmas and what is important.

“Sometimes people just need company and someone to talk to during Christmas so they are not alone.”

Danielle said the afternoon tea will be held on Christmas Day from 3pm until 6pm with an array of mini Christmas desserts, drinks, musical entertainment, games, a raffle and a tombola for the guests.

She said: “It’s the first time we have done this and I hope it goes well and we can continue to do it in the future to keep people company.”

The event is open to residents of all ages - not just the elderly.

Transport is being provided to and from the cricket club for those who need it by the club’s members on the day.

Danielle added: “People can get so busy at Christmas they forget what the day really means.

“We have been given food vouchers, donations and raffle prizes by businesses and residents who have wanted to help with our event.

“People will also be making cakes for the afternoon tea.”

She added: “It’s amazing how people have come together and rally around to help.”
