DOZENS of swimmers braved the bad weather conditions to take an icy dip in the sea for charity.

Despite heavy rain and dark clouds, about 25 residents came outside on Sunday morning to jump into the waves off Harwich beach.

The event was hosted by Nick May, landlord of the Alma Inn.

About £500 was raised by those taking part, either through sponsorsip or donation, which will go to Sense - a charity supporting people with complex disabilities to communicate.

Simon Ashley, of the Electric Palace, said people of all ages came to the swim which was great.

He said: “Despite the weather being awful a lot of money was still raised.”

The event was held at Harwich Sailing Club.

Simon added: “Thanks to Harwich Sailing Club for coffee and bacon rolls.”
