A SOCIAL media group has announced its own version of the New Year’s honours.

Manningtree, Mistley, Lawford and Brantham UNCUT on Facebook has listed the top volunteers and characters of the community for special recognition.

In a post, administrator Debbie Burrows said: “It’s not only the Queen that gives out new year honour, we at uncut have a few honours to dish out.

“We would first like to honour Penny Myers.

“Penny has quite a few nominations from local folks who want to say thank you for not only encouraging local crafters but also for giving the community the Christmas Market this year.

“Let it be known if it was not for her hard work and persistence it wouldn’t have happened.”

The second honour went to Gill Lewis, who organised a Christmas charity collection of food, bedding and gifts for local rescue centres.

Debbie said: “Gill, you are totally amazing, and we take our hat off to you for love and care for all animals.

“Whenever I or others have called for help, advice and guidance you are always there - even though you have your own demanding challenges you always find time to help others.

“Cats, dogs, birds and us humans have all benefited by you being in this community.”

Beverley Burton, of Mistley Parish Council, was nominated for being a “real voice of the locals and pushing for the very best for her community”.

Debbie said: “We also had lots of nominations for Holly Turner, who has worked hard to bring to everyone’s attention the very strong possibility of the closure of our library.

“Thank you for being so passionate about saving it.

“Also nominated is Julie Thomas who keeps us updated with everything to do with planning and development wise - thank you, Julie for being passionate and speaking up.

“Then we have Jessica Claire Wilson and Glynne Gerrard of the Station Hair and Beauty.

“Wow what can we say, not only you have restored a historic building into something that the whole community can be proud of and a fabulous hairdressing business but your flair for design has created a vibe that is so special.”

Debbie went on to personally thank fellow Facebook page administrator Emma Nettleto.

All shopkeepers were thanks but with special mention to Winyl, the Estuary Wine Bar, the Wholefood Café, and the Ark along with Deborah Birch and Marlene Carter from the market.
